Platforms and accessibility

Physical iOS taps, browser vibration, hydration, and device verification.

iOS

Eligible iOS WebKit targets use a native switch interaction. A physical tap can produce the platform's system tick. Synthetic clicks, timers, and asynchronous callbacks cannot promise physical iOS feedback. Choosing a preset or intensity does not change that tick.

WebKit introduced its switch control in Safari 17.4. That is a control baseline, not a claim that every device or OS version has been physically tested. System-haptic settings and hardware capability still matter.

Vibration-capable browsers

Browsers exposing navigator.vibrate use web-haptics for the selected input and options. If that API exists on an iOS-like device, it takes priority. An accepted API call does not prove that hardware physically vibrated.

Other devices

Targets keep their original action even when feedback is unavailable. Desktop audio preview is opt-in through webHapticsOptions.debug. An iPadOS identity can choose the native routing path without proving that the iPad has suitable haptic hardware.

Accessibility and interaction

Keep the original control's semantic role, label, and keyboard behavior. Native feedback controls are hidden from assistive technology and add no tab stop. The original ref and focus target remain intact.

enabled={false} and disabled={true} suppress feedback without disabling the target's action. Native disabled, aria-disabled="true", and inert hosts suppress feedback. Scrolling, canceled gestures, and drags do not become actions.

Certification status

Physical-device and VoiceOver certification is still open in issue #9. Automated Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit tests establish browser interaction behavior; they cannot establish tactile output.

The release checklist requires a recorded iPhone/Safari and Android/Chrome matrix with device model, OS/browser versions, settings, feedback observations, and target behavior. No unperformed hardware result is represented as a pass.
